Naviculoid diatom, very small, impossible to identify without cleaned frustules and access to a scanning electron microscope. Similar in shape and size to Navicula atomus but equally likely to be a species from a different genus, e.g. Achnanthes. Scrapings from exterior moist surface of a plant pot in a suburban garden.

Cells ca. 47 micrometres wide by 35 micrometres long, golden-brown to orange, full of storage product. Possibly the "Gloeodinium-phase" of Hemidinium nasutum
