What

Blue-winged Scoliid Wasp Scolia dubia

Observer

mgochfeld

Date

August 26, 2018 05:52 PM EDT

Description

Chestnut abdomen with large yellow 'spots' are most distinctive. But (contrary to my prior observation) I can see the iridescent blue markings on the wings on these photos.

Shows a strong preference for Clustered Mountain Mint even in a display garden with abundant other nectar sources.

About 40 were active under dense overcast at about 6pm this evening.
