Description

The name is of course provisional. The longitudinal stripes on the column distinguishes this specimen from locally abundant Actinia equina. DNA-research needs to be done urgently. I will keep looking for someone who can do that.

Description

A rarely observed hydrozoan which occurs on both sides of the north Atlantic. It has four radial canals, with gonads attached to them, and four bundles of tentacles. In each of these sets of tentacles are two much smaller ones with a bulbed tip. The latter character distinguishes Nemopsis from members of the related genus Bougainvillia.
This hydrozoan has been observed many times in the Netherlands as well as in Belgian caostal waters in the nineties, but it has not been reported since. So, more and in particular more recent records are desirable.
This same record was put on display on iNat previously, but removed because having been disgraced by the suggestion that it was a box jellyfish. It is not and I think the pictures sufficiently prove this.
