Description

Saw in backyard of 118 Vaughn Ct., very near Hoyt Park. Had thick black collar with fairly large light-colored box (presumably GPS tracking device) on collar. Animal looked healthy, and I am virtually certain it is same animal I recently reported.

Description

Adult coyote, appeared well-fed and healthy with very nice coat and full tail. Was wearing collar with tracking device, presumably from UW. Viewed in backyard from inside house. Prowled three backyards looking for food; seemed wary but not frightened. Had a dog in house but dog was not aware of coyote and did not bark. Viewed for about 1 minute before he(?) wandered off.
We live right by Hoyt Park and have had many coyotes and foxes in past. This is first coyote or fox we have observed in estimated 2 years.

saw red fox running along path in Hoyt Park that extends from the overlook to Vaughn Ct. It did not look that healthy and its coat was not nearly as long, full, or colorful as the red fox observed in our backyard a couple days ago.

Description

I am virtually positive it was a mature red fox, but it was in extremely poor condition. The body weight looked pretty normal, but it has lost almost its entire coat over all its body and tail. It stopped in our backyard to drink out of our water feature. We have seen many red fox in and around Hoyt Park over the last several years, but not nearly as many this year. My guess is this animal has mange.
