A small layer of snow was still on the ground when we did this day walk to Tama Lakes - so we were suprised to see this male in breeding plumage at the picnic platform near the base of Taranaki Falls.

There's a tui in our neighbourhood that rotates between a few favourite trees. It was a real treat to see it in our backyard last weekend and hear the song. Hopefully all the native trees and shrubs we are planting will attract even more native birds.
