It was taken in Omo forest reserve Nigeria in May. My colleague dolapo took the shot, felt it was a Brown cheeked.
Nik feels It looks like a Piping Hornbill that has lost its central tail feathers but also feels the photo is not too good..
some others on inaturalist feel also for Pipping.
Yes there were white-thighed sighted and with better shots by myself but this shot to me seems the bird is possibly moulting with a bit of brown wash to the side of the head. However bill doesn't feel like brown cheeked or white thighed, looking a bit longer and slimer.
My colleague feels the pale bill supports his brown-cheeked feel. The amount of black band on the tail also much more than expected for a white-thighed
Surprisingly the brown-eye patch expected for white-thighed and brown cheeked are absent from the bird in the shot taken.
Except a hybrid has occurred.
