This is a brown young-of-the-year Smoky Shrew. The adults are darker gray (smoky). At 107 mm total length and 6.2 grams, this is larger than the similar Masked Shrew, Sorex cinereus, and more robust.

Photos 5 & 6 show a live adult whose mature aperture and adjacent shell was broken off, but was able to develop a new aperture with a recurved lip and all three teeth. The original parietal tooth is still visible.
