Obviously escaped. In cracks in badly broken up, thin blacktop & gravelly sand "pavement" of an unused parking lot at back of an undeveloped lot in a now old industrial park area. Assoc. w/ scattered weeds (Coronilla varia, Euphorbia maculata, Eragrostis pectinacea, Setaria viridis, Ulmus pumila seedlings). Very local, three plants, two bigger, one small, quite near one another.

Naturalized in field of rank weedy brushy vegetation of an undeveloped lot in a now old industrial park area, readily spreading east-west for some 100 yds. or more, possibly from planted strip along unused driveway at W edge of tract containing Vernonia gigantea, prairie plants, & mugo pine, this also succumbing to pioneering trees (cottonwood, green ash) & weeds. Looks like a tract w/ a deteriorating roughed-in driveway & parking lot that was never developed. Locally abundant, non-native.

Relatively open, lowest edge of open oak-hickory woodland. Glumes very slender, 0.8--0.9 mm wide; upper surface of lvs. villosulous. I brought three incomplete stems back to the herbarium, examined them under a microscope, and photographed the inflorescences on a windowsill in the lab.
