On Populus tremuloides bark in seepage area, mostly mouldy with fungal infection. Sporocarps: ovoid or subglobose, sessile to very short stalked, densely clustered, 0.4-0.8 mm diam., pinkish-brown to copper-coloured, shining. Peridium: thin, metallic, somewhat persistent at sides, splitting into lobes, papillose on inside, with age dehiscing completely and leaving a shallow calyculus with a pronounced edge. Stalk: filled with round cells. Capillitium: remaining intact as a compact spherical mass of threads and spores in the shallow calyculus; threads scanty, fragile, loose, 2.5-5.2 µm diam., with bulbous expansions along length and at ends, ornamented with spines, and low cogs/rings. Spores: (6.1)6.4-7.1(7.6) µm, pinkish in mass.
