this plant is fruiting. the berries are edible. there may be medicinal uses for the leaves and barks.

this plant can be confused with the big leaf maple (acer macrophyllum) because its leaves have different shapes when they are young to mature. mature leaves of this plant resemble the shape of maple leaves. it also have a smooth underside much like maple. maples also grow in this location.

the underside of the leaves of the western sycamore (platanus racemos) is fuzzy. sycamore does not grow in this location.

california bay (umbellularia californica), sticky snakeroot (ageratina adenophora) and poison oak (toxicodendron diversilobum) grow on the upper mountain slopes in this location.

live canyon oak (quercus chrysolepis) and big leaf maple (acer macrophyllum) grow on the lower mountain slopes in this location.
