I graduated with a BSc in Zoology from Edinburgh and a PhD from Aberdeen (for a thesis on the evolutionary ecology and population systematics of day geckos in the Seychelles). I have lived in Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Scotland, London, Oman, Abu Dhabi and Perth, Australia. Growing up in Kenya stimulated an interest in natural history, which has been the main theme of my professional life too. I have taught at universities in Oman, UAE, UK and Australia: a wide variety of courses from conservation biology, zoology, ecology to animal nutrition and water and waste management, and have published widely in both the academic and popular press. I have published researched on reptiles (especially geckos), fish, birds, arachnids, arid woodland ecology amongst other things. My book on 'The Amphibians and Reptiles of Oman and the UAE' was published by Chimaira in 2013.
I have also conducted over 150 zoology and ecology surveys as a consultant, in Oman, UAE and Australia.
