I'm a naturalist from Lansing, Michigan who graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in ecology. Although mostly interested in birds and plants, I am also fascinated by butterflies, herps, odonates, and really any other living thing. I am enthralled by ecology as a whole, particularly in desert, montane, and boreal habitats. More than anything I like exploring interesting places in the Great Lakes State and educating others about nature.

I've learned that I'm awful about responding to messages on iNat, so any time-sensitive correspondence is best done by email at nmartine@nmu.edu. Please note that I do not respond to requests to collect seeds from wild plants. Feel free to use photos from any of my observations, with credit, for non-commercial purposes.

During the 2021 field season I'm working for NEON Science in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin as a lead temporary field technician. I'm always interested in other biology work in the Lake Superior region.
