I have a long-time love of nature and natural history going back to my degree in Natural Resources from Humboldt State University. Over the years I've mostly been a birder and amateur botanist, but from time to time over the years I've focused on trees, fungi, butterflies, bats, California lilies, or native iris. I'm currently trying to learn a few common genera and species of insects (particularly native bees).
Favorite current field guides: The Bees In Your Backyard by Wilson & Carril; Bumble Bees of North America by Williams, et. al., California Bees & Blooms by Frankie, et. al.; Field Guide to the Common Bees of California by Gretchen LeBuhn; The Solitary Bees, by Danforth, et. al., Insects of the Pacific Northwest, by Peter Haggard & Judy Haggard; Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast by Noah Siegel and Christian Schwarz; A Field Guide to Coastal Marine Fishes: From Alaska to Baja, by Valerie Kells; A Field Guide to California Lichens, by Stephen Sharnoff; A Naturalist's Seashore Guide, by Gary & Richard Brusca, 1978 (out of print); Field Guide to Animal Tracks and Scat of California, by LM Elbroch, et. al.; Field Guide to Spiders of California..., by R.J. Adams and Tim Manolis; Dragonflies and Damselflies of California, by Timothy Manolis.
