I am Director of the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence for Invasion Biology and Distinguished Professor of Ecology at Stellenbosch University, South Africa (https://blogs.sun.ac.za/cib/).

I work on biological invasions, mainly invasive plants and particularly trees and shrubs. The genera Acacia, Ailanthus, Alnus, Casuarina, Eucalyptus, Hakea, Melaleuca, Pinus, Prosopis and Schinus have featured prominently in the work of my lab group. Most of my work has been conducted in South Africa, especially in the fynbos and savanna biomes, but I have worked in many other parts of the world. I am interested in natural history in general.

I co-edited the 2020 book "Biological Invasions in South Africa" which is available for FREE downloading at: https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030323936.
