My primary interest as a naturalist is urban and suburban ecosystems, including how non-human organisms survive and sometimes even thrive in a human-dominated landscape.

Professionally, I'm an educator working in a nonprofit setting. Among other programs, as of late 2020 I supervise a once-a-week middle school "Ecojustice" class that combines hands-on activities (we're doing safe in-person outdoors and socially distanced classes), and I'm also planning for a COVID-ready ecology summer camp. As an educator, I balance teaching about environmental racism and global environmental disaster on the one hand, with appreciation for the beauty of life and empowerment to create change on the other hand.
