Once a geologist, always a geologist! I am a retired base metal exploration geologist living in Brenton-on-Sea, Garden Route of South Africa. Together with fellow retired geologist, David Scott, we run the Knysna University of the Third Age (U3A) geology interest group. This U3A course introduces members to basic geological processes enabling them to appreciate the landscape around them. We hold day and longer trips into the Cape Fold Belt and overlying Karoo sediments to explore and interpret the exposures around us.

As I am not expert in fossil identification. Since there are so few online sites dedicated to South Africa’s palaeontological heritage, I have decided to post my geotagged fossil photographs on iNaturalist for posterity and with the express hope of getting expert opinion on the correct genus and species name.
