Howdy fellow iNaturalists. My name is Jim Dugan and my wife and I live in the beautiful northwest hills of Connecticut, USA, where we have constantly tried to have the least negative impact on our Earth as we are able. I have always felt most at home when immersed in nature and I am in constant awe of the life we share this planet with. I have most previously worked 15 years as manager for an international peace not-for-profit organization and, prior to that, I have worked extensively as manager of operations in the rock and roll festival world, have worked in the environmental education field and in the building and restaurant trades. Since childhood I have spent as much time out of doors as I possibly can, am enthralled by different ecosystems, and in the past have done intensive "big years” for birds and butterflies in my home state of CT. Over my life I have attempted to learn as much as I can about the flora and fauna of our world and have tried to share that knowledge with members of my species whenever possible. I greatly appreciate the thoughts and knowledge shared by the many other members of this community and thank you all for allowing me to be part of it. Prior to mid Fall of 2022 I was regrettably using a Cannon Rebel with an 18 to 55mm lens and switched to an Olympus Tg6 in mid Fall 2022 and use the "microscope" setting which often focuses on the background material instead of the object I am trying to photograph, but until I can upgrade my camera/lens again, the majority of photos post mid Fall 2022 will be shot with this Olympus. I will sometimes lighten or slightly darken a photo but never manipulate my photos in any other way (there might be a few shots where black light over-wash would make the specimen unrecognizable and I altered the black light some). I greatly apologize for the many terrible photographs I have posted, but I do try, within reason, to photograph as many species as I can and feel for future possible research by others it would be better to have a crappy photo to show the existence of a species than have no photo at all. If anyone wishes to use my photographs you are more than welcome to but I would insist on photo credit and that they are not used for profit as well as asking me in advance of re-publishing of any of my photographs. If someone wished to use photo(s) in a profit generating format please contact me to discuss this use. Again I cannot express how thankful I am for the iNaturalist staff and the phenomenal worldwide community - I am honored to be associated with each and every one of you.
