John has been fascinated with everything in nature since boyhood. He kept his parents nervous with his collections of lizards, spiders, hermit crabs, and an occasional snake. Today, he enjoys studying moths, especially their habitats and variability, and is involved with National Moth Week each year. He is an editor for Mississippi State's Moth Photographers Group, contributor to BugGuide, and his butterfly photos can be seen in The Alabama Butterfly Atlas. He's also an avid birder and and is a longtime member of the Birmingham Audubon Society. He lives on his farm in Chilton county where he tutors high school students in math and science.
