I'm a late-vocation community naturalist, with training and experience specific to the mid-Atlantic Piedmont where I live.

The core of my natural-history education has been the wonderful Field Studies program of the Audubon Naturalist Society of the Mid-Atlantic States [now Nature Forward], plus experiences with the Friends of Sligo Creek, the Maryland Native Plant Society, the Natural History Society of Maryland, and Green Quill.

After completing the Field Studies program in 2009 (and retiring from my day-job as a federal bureaucrat), I delighted in some six years of creating and posting nature-education displays and accompanying handouts in Sligo Creek Park [https://www.friendsofsligocreek.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Sligo-Newsletter-Aug-2017.pdf ]

Now I've begun learning about the natural world in central North Carolina and in the Finger Lakes region of New York--the two places where I have grandchildren who, it turns out, delight in noticing with me the frogs calling and the beetles creeping.
