This is a female. It's first year I've encountered this species in this area. So far this spring I've found two, this female and a male https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/81018464
I've read that only infected females, attached for 24 hours or more, can transmit Lyme disease. Males can attach but do not transmit Lyme. Males are even smaller and have solid brown backs. Only females have the circular black spot on their back.
