along roadside in mainly coniferous forest with some clearcutting; I had photographed this species a day or two earlier (ID by John S. Ascher) and returned to see if I could find any in the act of 'kidnapping'. In a tiny roadside gravel pit I quickly located a few that were slowly making their way up a steep slope to reach openings in the bank where they would presumably be placing the ants. It has been a few years but I think they were making short laboured flights combined with scrambling while holding the ants.
