This is an active swarm of tropical fire ants at a tuna + honey bait station. I had been analyzing the nesting trends of loggerhead and green sea turtles in the Dry Tortugas for the Nat. Park Service and was curious about the impact of fire ant predation. So in August of 2008 I did an ant surveys and they were everywhere!
