Description

Sorry for the long absence! I was off doing some wildlife trafficking stuff, and it's best if I didn't do any social media.

In any case, I spent some of May in the Philippines meeting up with other folks from the Southeast Asian Bat Conservation Research Unit working on the issue of hunting of flying foxes in the region. Myself and my Indonesian student Sheherazade were the reps for Indonesia (me filling in for MZB-LIPI's seat). In our down time, we went to take a hike to see the flying fox colonies on the road side in Subic Freeport Zone.

There's a colony of Pteropus vampyrus here, and across the road, there were Acerodon (tagged in a different observation). They roost quite differently--the dense packing pattern is only seen in Pteropus vampyrus, whereas the Acerodon tend to be in a less compact group in the trees.
