A very interesting variety. Most distinctive for the two parallel darker orange stripes at the base of the corolla lobes. It resembles S. exacoides in this regard but the latter is endemic to the W Cape. It is also distinctive for having two secondary stigmatic swellings below halfway the style - opposite each other.
Growing in sheltered south-facing gulley near a stream amongst thick wild rose bushes.
Flowers at the end of simple stems; branching towards the top into the inflorescence. flowers in groups of three at end of pedicels.
Leaves: 12x14 - broad. base not cordate. Shaped like a Russian dome.
Calyx: 9mm - lobes free to the base.
Corolla lobes 9x6mm, apex not pointed; tube 7mm. Diameter of corolla 17.8mm.
Samens: anthers 1.5/2mm, split into two, relatively long lanceolate appendages at base. Filaments 2mm, inserted at corolla lobe sinus. Filaments attached towards the middle of anthers.
Stigma small, triangular, 2-lobed
Style 8.7mm
Stigmatic swelling - two below half way, each opposite the other.
Ovary, large - 4mm
