Description

The adult Little Sparrowhawks have been breeding successfully in a grove of pines on the estate for several years now. They nest within the same section of trees but in different spots. The young chicks are fed regularly throughout the day. The adult calls and lets them know that food's on its way. The older chick immediately flies into the nest and there is calling between them. The adult tears the prey into tiny bits and feeds them non stop for at least 15 minutes. Once done flies off immediately and sometimes settles on a high branch in the shade of the pines. Unless one has followed the flight they are so small and hard to pick up.
