Southern Small-spotted Genet (Genetta felina)

Description

Droppings average 19 mm in diameter (range 15-21 mm, N=14), up to 150 mm long. Midden itself roughly 30 cm in diameter in a shallow depression (deepest about 10 cm). Two other very similar middens 40 m and 360 m away contain droppings essentially identical. Contents: hair, small bones and teeth, scorpion, one dropping with grass ‘plug’. Camera traps on the property have captured Small-spotted Genet.

Comment: These middens seem very small for a Genet. On the other hand, the droppings themselves are the largest (thickest) Genet droppings I have ever seen. However, I cannot imagine what other animal it could possibly be (i.e., occurs here, uses middens, has this dropping shape and contents).
