Description
Dorysterna paradoxa (family Chrysomelidae) spotted on a trail-side leaf in Las Pampas, Cotopaxi, Ecuador, about 1500 meters elevation. Much debate remains about genus name. Michael Geiser at the Museum of Natural History in London says, "It's Dorysterna paradoxa (Achard, 1914). The massive thorn-like process on the mesosternum is actually a genus-level character separating Dorysterna from Euryceraea (despite those two species having the same unusually 'clubbed' antennae and a rather similar colour pattern)."
