Barking Owl (Ninox connivens)

Description

This is a bigger owl than the southern boobooks that are seen every night. It flew away and abandoned its prey shortly after I snapped these two photos. On closer inspection, the killed prey was a wandering whistling duck. There is a dam nearby. I then left as quickly as possible, hopefully it returned to its meal. There was no trace of the duck left the following morning.
