Young male Brachymesia gravida obelisking (r), another young male in less typical oblique posture (l)
I saw the oblique posture (left, out of focus subject) much more today during the hottest part of the day than I did the other evening (when I did not see it at all, out of even more subjects). I'm not sure if it was thermoregulatory or possibly typical of less adept, immature subjects.
I knew there would be less activity with this species midday than during late afternoon foraging but I was surprised how significant it was. There was about 10% of the population that was active later in the evening. I will try to go soon and survey both midday and later in the afternoon.
