The first photo shows where the tree was girdled in the spring of 2017. This is the third summer the tree above the girdle has supported fairly healthy and vigorous growth. Since this tree is not being fed by the roots, I am documenting how well this species can adapt and survive over a protracted time period without root fed water supply. I am open to speculations as to how the tree stores moisture in the wood or cambium well enough to maintain itself.
