Eating Elaeagnus fruit - has one in its beak in image 1
I think the only time I've seen a lone rosella. Quite a different experience - very still, quiet. It didn't show any alarm at my movements, and it was a very peaceful experience to watch it selecting fruits.
In midst of an extensive honeysuckle invasion which has killed numerous surrounding native trees. Elaeagnus is also abundant in this regen kauri forest margin, and this is one of the larger occurrences. Nearby are large clumps of ginger, a newly-rooted madeira tuber (easily removed, and the only Madeira seen on this ridge so far, but I have only just cut my way through the honeysuckle to see this part of the forest margin - there is likely to be more) and about 100sq m of Palmgrass.
