Naturalising through the fence onto the railway land, where it has been sprayed with herbicide (partial kill).

This is the only black-stemmed bamboo listed as naturalised on NZPCN, with the useful comment that "culms becoming black or heavily blotched black in 2nd year. Culm sheath often with dark blotches towards apex."
