A colonial diatom that forms flat ribbon-like bands, most often seen in girdle view. In valve view, elliptical to linear-lanceolate cells. In girdle view, quadrangular with distinctive rounded corners (apical pore fields-ocelli). Girdle bands complex and composed of numerous segments bearing septate partitions. Round (punctate) pores and thickened ribs (costae) on the girdle bands (Hendey 1964, Al-Yamani & Suburova 2019).
