The high-pitched, single note calls of the male Red-shafted Flicker had attracted four Nanday Parakeets who seemed to be responding to the Flicker with their own calls but kept their distance… (Only a few tall Western Sycamore tree skeletons are still standing at Solstice Canyon, which was devastated by the Woolsey Fire. Winter storms blew many of them over, and the small creek is now covered and filled with tree limbs.)
