Description

Specimens were collected from a home at Barrigada Heights. They were found along window ledges throughout the house, both interior and exterior.

These minute insects belong to the Order Collembola, the springtails. Springtails are not usually considered to be pests. They feed on algae, fungi, fungus spores, pollen, and decaying vegetable matter. They do little or no damage in the home. Reducing relative humidity indoors may help to reduce the population.

I have seen high numbers of this springtail species, or one very similar, breeding in high numbers in abandoned termite nests.
