Hebe stricta var. egmontiana (Cockayne), L.B.Moore.
Common shrub throughout mountain particularly in subalpine vegetation extending into Chionochloa dominated tussock grass land.
This is one of three tetraploid units within Hebe stricta (the type species in this complex is diploid). Hebe stricta var. egmontiana is linked to var. lata (also tetraploid) and I believe both should be merged and treated at species rank, due to their widespread sympatry with diploid Hebe stricta (var. stricta).
Although described from Taranaki Mounga, Hebe stricta var. egmontiana is not endemic to that peak, identical plants occur on the Central Volcanic Plateau and associated volcanic peaks, they then extend into the eastern greywacke ranges where they merge in the broader-leaved var. lata.
