If found this solitary specimen in a forest that was otherwise lacking in fresh fungi. This specimen was fruiting on a piece of decomposing wood that was buried about an inch below the surface. I think it might be a Sarcoscypha coccinea, but the long stipe is making me question that. It could just be an environmental condition, since the wood was buried so deep.

Stipe thickness at apex: 5mm
Stipe at base: 8mm
Cap color, red, very bright red
Underside of cap, has white fuzz or hairs, stipe is the same as underside of cap.
Flesh is white.
The spores are elliptical and smooth with some oil droplets. This ascomycete features 8 spore asci.
