Several species of bird were lined up in the shallows, plucking food out of the river like luggage from the carousel at the airport. This time it was mainly stilts and one large Herring Gull. Their strategy seemed to be facing the onrushing water, spotting something, then spinning around to grab it as it floated by. I concentrated on the gull and when I examined the photos, saw that it was catching what looked like large worms.
