Description

Membraneis challengeri (Grunow) Paddock 1988 (Guiry et al. 2020)
Class: Bacillariophyceae, Subclass: Bacillariophycidae, Order: Naviculales, Family: Naviculaceae, Genus: Membraneis

Tropidoneis antarctica (Grunow) Cleve 1894 is a more commonly used name (Cupp 1943, Shim 1976, Horner 2002) and is considered a synonym for Membraneis challengeri. Basionym is Navicula challengeri (Hasle et al. 1996: pp. 286-287) https://www.algaebase.org/search/species/detail/?species_id=48736 .
