Juvenile male Ischnura hastata being predated by tetragnathid
I saw this juvenile forktail a few minutes before this shot and was trying to take his photo but he didn't want to cooperate. I moved on but when I was retracing my path I saw some movement near the ground; he had just gotten caught in the web and was desperately flailing his wings trying to lift out of there.
The spider backed off as the web shook and let the damsel take in the poison, then returned and put its fangs in the damsel's eyes. I'm not sure if that is the normal order of operations or just because its position was nearest to the eyes.
I sat there and took way too many photos, feeling invigorated, peaceful in a way to witness such a straightforward struggle of life.
