Description

doublet, Dimeresia howellii, Nevada, Elko County, Independence Range, Sammy Creek, North Fork Humboldt River watershed, elevation 2286 m (7500 ft).

This strange sunflower family member features heads with only 2 flowers each, aggregated into larger secondary heads that are sessile within a leaf rosette. The one species in the genus is endemic to the northern Great Basin and southern Columbia Plateau of southeast Oregon, southwest Idaho, northern Nevada, and northeast California.

From Kodachrome-64 color transparency film exposed with an Olympus OM-4T and Tamron 28-70mm zoom-macro lens. Scanned at 4000 dpi with a Nikon Coolscan 5000, and restored using Corel Paintshop Pro X4.
