Description

I’d never seen this species in person before. It was breathtaking. Of those fungus walk participants lagging behind with me for this find, the consensus was that it was occurring on cedar, which doesn’t seem to be a known host from the references I’ve read.

Substrate: fallen decorticate cedar log in center of trail

Habitat: hiking trail in mixed hardwood conifer forest beside dry marsh/receded shoreline of lake

Ecoregion: Southern Great Lakes Forest (NA0414) / Erie/Ontario Lake Plain (83a)

Collectors: A. Hudon, D. Newman & P. Kaishian
