Northern Black Racer (Coluber constrictor constrictor)? Near Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY. Between cycle track and FBF. Evidently basking in bright sunlight among grass etc., with head and neck raised above dead branch on ground. Allowed relatively close approach but suddenly took alarm and made very rapid escape towards thicker vegetation/hedge forming boundary of FBF. Identity uncertain (no previous experience with species) but size (length estimated to be about 3 feet or more), color, unkeeled scales, scalation of head, etc., all suggest this species. Confirmation or correction would be greatly appreciated!
