Introduction to the Mosquitoes in California Project

Newly arrived invasive mosquitoes are spreading around California: The main objective of this project is to help identify and track mosquitoes that transmit pathogens to people, domestic animals and wildlife. Two main species of concern are the Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) and the Yellow-fever Mosquito (Aedes aegypti). These invasive species transmit a variety of viruses and were first detected in California in 2011 and 2013 respectively, and now have begun to spread throughout S. and C.
