Anemone stinkhorn fungus observed for the first time in Madagascar

Aseroe rubra known as Anemone stinkhorn fungus is an Australian endemic fungus. it was collected in 1800 in southern Tasmania and named by French botanist Jaques Labillardière. It is widespread in Australia from southeastern Queensland through New South Wales and eastern Victoria and Tasmania. If It is commonly found in gardens and grassy areas in Madagascar It was observed under shady area within humid forest. Its foul odour which smells of feces or carrion attracts flies which spread its spores.

Antavolobe NP 2016 : January 19, 2016 to January 21, 2016

This project is set up to document the flora and fauna of Antavolobe area. This forest is changing, and long-term monitoring of the flora and fauna will help us understand the changes and perhaps mitigate negative impacts.
