A Scientific Collecting License (SCL) is issued for the handling or collection of wildlife for non-recreational purposes, such as: wildlife management, gathering information valuable to the maintenance of wild populations, education, advancement of science, or for the promotion of the public health or welfare.

The SCL is an annual license. A report is due January 31st of the following year. The use of iNaturalist allows license holders to submit their data through the iNaturalist app. Please follow the directions.

The SCL stipulations below are to be used as a reference for this project. This does not replace the annual license issued by Arizona Game and Fish Department. Please carry your license with you during all activities.

Stipulation Description:
1) The following are agents under this license for the activities below: All personnel employed by Company/Organization Name (roster available upon request).

2) This license allows stipulated activities to be conducted: Statewide.

3) You are authorized at construction sites to move wildlife that may be in harm’s way, but only as far as is necessary to put the animals out of immediate danger.

4) You are authorized to salvage birds found dead near transmission lines, per instructions from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Any injured birds may be transported to a licensed rehabilitator for treatment.

5) NOTE: Salvaged birds or parts should be deposited in one of the authorized non-eagle repositories or as directed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. 6) When a Golden or Bald Eagle is located dead or injured, keep in place and notify the the Department radio room at 623-236-7201 for further instruction.

7) You are authorized to remove non-active nests that pose a danger to transmission line operation or line crew safety. If an active nest must be removed, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator must be present.

8) Please follow all reporting guidelines. The disposition of all birds handled (including fatalities, rehabilitation and relocated) must be reported on the iNaturalist app and the Department must be notified by email of the data location to scpermits@azgfd.gov. less ↑
