This project collects data on bird-building collisions in the greater Austin, Texas area (including Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties). We hope to raise awareness about bird collisions and encourage local communities to adopt bird-friendly window and building designs.

Collisions with buildings kill an estimated 599,000,000 birds across the US every year, making this the second highest cause of death attributable to human activity (Source: https://www.fws.gov/birds/bird-enthusiasts/threats-to-birds.php). Large reflective or transparent windows and night lighting can increase the risk of building collisions, which are especially common during Spring and Fall migration.

Please submit your observation if you find a dead or injured bird that appears to have collided with a building/window. Please complete the fields below in as much detail as possible, and attach photos to aid identification.
