The phenomenon of vagrancy in birds - in which individuals show up in areas outside their usual range, sometimes remarkably far away - is a fascinating but little understood aspect of the lives of migratory birds. While scores of such records are recorded in eBird, iNaturalist has no such database for out-of-range bird records. I've created this project for birders on iNaturalist to specifically address this phenomenon, by compiling their observations of vagrant birds. Records for this project could include anything from species that are annual rarities to an area all the way up to once-in-a-lifetime sightings; species that are expanding their ranges, which often have "scouts" appearing at the periphery of the usual haunts, could also be put here as well.
