The results are in! Well, hopefully we'll have more coming in as time goes on, but here's the latest update as of June 28, 2013.
Thanks to the many contributed images and diligent follow-through of PhotoBlitz project members, we are generating an impressive biodiversity database from our one-day photo-documentation event on Thompson Island on May 12, 2013.
About 70% of the 201 observations in the project have so far been identified to species or genus level, impressive! Of the 52 species identified, 14 represent new species records for the park, and 23 are new records for Thompson Island.
Our 201 observations spanned eight taxonomic classes and at least 21 orders of invertebrates, not bad for a few hours in the field. I'm really pleased at what we accomplished in so short a time, with such a blustery start to the day.
Many thanks also to the iNaturalist community who helped us with so many identifications, we've benefited greatly from using iNaturalist as our virtual homebase for cataloging biodiversity in the park.
