NPS Cumberland Piedmont Network Invasive Species

The purpose of this project is to document the occurrence of non-native invasive plant and animal species within the boundaries of the 14 NPS Cumberland Piedmont Inventory and Monitoring Network Parks. The parks include: Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, Carl Sandburg Home National Historical Site, Cowpens National Battlefield, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Fort Donelson National Battlefield, Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, Kings Mountain National Military Park, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Mammoth Cave National Park, Ninety Six National Historic Site, Russell Cave National Monument, Shiloh National Military Park, and Stones River National Battlefield. There is a project list that includes all known non-native plant and animal species that occur or could occur on any of the parks in order to restrict observations to non-native species. Some of the species are early detection species and/or high-priority species within the network. For early detection species, park managers will be notified of these species as they are observed, which will better enable them to control and eradicate these species before they become established at the park. For high-priority species, observed populations will be tracked and forwarded to park managers to be targeted for removal by exotic plant management teams.
